Pine Tree ISD school bus runs off road, into ditch

LONGVIEW, TX (KLTV) -

A Pine Tree Independent School District bus 91-3 ran off the road and into a ditch in Longview Tuesday morning.

The incident happened near the intersection of Tenneryville Road and Bernice Street.

Pine Tree ISD transportation officials say the bus driver applied the brakes, which locked up the wheels and caused the bus to slide.

There were six children on the bus. No one was injured and the children were transferred to another bus.

"It started slowly spinning around and the back of bus started sliding around to the right," according to witness Vincent Rowe. "It went sideways down the road for, I don't know, 20 or 30 feet. When he lost traction and he went into the ditch it was full of kids and there were tons of cars everywhere."

"It was just surreal, that bus was so close to tipping over," Rowe said.

Wreckers are now working to tow the bus back out of the ditch.

Pine Tree ISD is currently looking into the incident.
