Snow plow drivers prepare to cash in on incoming storm

LEE'S SUMMIT, MO (KCTV) -

Hundreds of plow drivers are standing by to clear a path and make some cash.

Rick Ellerman, owner of Ellerman Construction and Snow Removal in Lee's Summit, has a fleet of plows and has mapped out the areas his employers will be headed out to Tuesday.

"We service from here in Lee's Summit to Blue Springs, Liberty, KCI down to Olathe," Ellerman said.

It is hard to believe that his decades-old family business initially had nothing to do with snow removal, but that is what now makes them the most money.

"We're in the roofing business and have been for 82 years. A two-inch snowstorm would be the equivalent of one good month of roofing. So it is a big deal to hit us," he said.

Over in Raymore, David Forster, with Monumental Lawn and Outdoor, is also prepping for the blanket of snow and the cash that comes with removing it.

"It can be pretty profitable, especially because we don't have a whole lot of material in it," Forster said.

On Tuesday, Forster and his subcontractor will have at least a dozen trucks on the roads, clearing a path all the way to the bank.

"They manage crews that go all throughout the metro. They got a pretty good organizational strategy going for this storm," Forster said.

Ellerman's crews arrived at work late Monday night in anticipation of Tuesday's winter blast.

"Very excited. We're ready. We got all of our equipment ready, all of our guys are ready," Ellerman said.

There will be at least 300 people working the plows and salt machines Tuesday, so Ellerman's crews are in for a long and prosperous day.
