(RNN) - If you play an instrument, you may have noticed something curious about the Red Hot Chili Peppers' instruments during their Super Bowl performance - they weren't plugged in.
Turns out, while the vocals were live, the music wasn't.
"I understand the NFL's stance on this, given they only have a few minutes to set up the stage, there [are] a zillion things that could go wrong and ruin the sound ... there was not any room for argument on this."
The band says they don't mime music, but under the circumstances, had no choice.
"We decided that, with Anthony singing live, that we could still bring the spirit and freedom of what we do into the performance, and of course we played every note in the recording specially for the gig," Flea wrote.
Foreigner, Styx and Don Felder of The Eagles announce tour
In what might be one of the most powerful rock collaborations we've seen in a while, Foreigner, Styx and lead guitarist/songwriter for The Eagles Don Felder are teaming up for a summer tour, The Soundtrack of Summer.
"This tour will have the best vocalists and guitarists on the road today," Felder said. "The sheer volume of our combined catalogs is massive and should satisfy any rock 'n' roll fan, and rock them until they can't walk out of the place."
Felder will open each show, and Foreigner and Styx will alternate closing slot positions throughout the tour. The group also said they are recording a new version of the Eagles' Hotel California and will release it along with a compilation album to accompany the tour.
The tour begins May 17 in Oklahoma City, OK, and will wrap up July 27 in Santa Barbara, CA. For a full list of tour dates and ticket information, click here.
Jodeci releasing a new album this year? Timbaland says yes
Jodeci could potentially be releasing their first album in 19 years at the end of 2014.
During a recent chat with fans, Timbaland admitted he was teaming up with DeVante Swing, one of the original Jodeci members, to help the group work on new material.
"I met with DeVante and I'm going to help work on the new Jodeci album," Timbaland said. "I ain't really supposed to say that, but I will be working on the new Jodeci album. And that will be my career coming full circle ... connecting back with DeVante again."
Timbaland also helped produce Jodeci's 1995 LP The Show, the After Party, the Hotel. Swing is responsible for giving Timbaland, formerly known as Timothy Mosley, his nickname in the '90s, according to Fuse.

Same Jenny, same block
While she's whittling down American Idol contestants in California, Jennifer Lopez wants you to know she's still just Jenny from the block, a Bronx girl at heart.
And if you forget, she takes great care to remind you. In her new video for Same Girl, J. Lo trudges through her old neighborhood, hanging with her old pals, singing "No, I never changed, I'm loving every day, I know that I'm the same Jenny around the block." She even rides the 6 train, referenced in the title of her 1999 album On The 6.
