Icy roads continue to be a problem for motorists in the Pine Belt.
Thursday morning, Troop J of the Mississippi Highway Patrol responded to several accidents. One of them took place at about 10 a.m. in the southbound lane of I-59 between the Evelyn Gandy Parkway and Highway 49 in Hattiesburg. Two vehicles traveling over the icy Bouie River bridge lost control and collided. One person was hurt in the crash and taken to the hospital. Traffic was slowed to a crawl for about an hour while the accident was cleaned up.
Motorists should be aware that portions of many roads, bridges, and under passes are still treacherous and they should adjust their speed accordingly.
