PELZER, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Greenville County deputies said a man has been charged after his wife was found shot to death.

Deputies said they received a 911 call about the shooting on Berry Road in Pelzer, just after 10 p.m. Wednesday. When they arrived on scene, they found the woman dead.

Deputies said John Sledge fled the home after the shooting and was arrested during a traffic stop at the intersection of Augusta Road and Scott Lane.

On Thursday afternoon, deputies said they charged Sledge, 46, with murder and possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime.

Coroner Parks Evans identified the victim as Kimberly Sledge, 51. He said her death was being investigated as a homicide and she had visible trauma, but he did not release any other details about her death.

According to arrest warrants, someone else was at the home at the time of the shooting. Additionally, deputies said evidence at the couple's home indicated they had been in a fight before John Sledge shot his wife.
