A western Kentucky family is launching a campaign to provide support and help to local families who are victims of abuse.

Vicki Shields has been taking it one day at a time since the death of her 4-year-old grandson Jonathan Thomas Oakley. Jonathan's mother and her boyfriend are facing trial in the case.

The family is starting a campaign to support victims of abuse.

"We wanted to do something in his memory. His birthday is coming up and we needed to do something to bring awareness to child abuse and domestic violence," said Shields.

Jonathan's family is collecting donations and selling T-shirts online in his memory. All the proceeds will be given to Oasis Women's Shelter in Owensboro and be used to help families in the area who are victims of abuse.

"People need to know that it can happen to your family. It can happen to your neighbor. It's out there. It's a monster and we have to stop it, " said Shields.
