GREENVILLE, SC (FOX Carolina) -

People awoke to very cold weather across the western Carolinas and northeast Georgia Thursday morning with temperatures in the teens and single digits, but they have continued to rise.

Because of the low temperatures, any moisture left on sidewalks, roads, decks, etc. remained frozen. But the temperatures have risen up to nearly freezing across the Upstate and the upper teens and 20s in the mountains.

Drivers were reminded to use caution, as many roads may be mostly dry but still have patches of black ice until the temperatures rise higher.

While the temperatures did not rise much higher than the 30s on Wednesday, Thursday's highs will reach the 40s area-wide, which should help to melt most of the ice.

Plus, sunshine should help to dry up a lot of the moisture on the frozen ground.

A big warm-up is coming, which will be a welcomed change for many in the Carolinas and Georgia. Highs will be back into the 50s on Friday and through the weekend.

Rain chances will return to the forecast Saturday into Sunday as well, but no snow or ice is expected.
