HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

Some people who are down on their luck in Hattiesburg were able to get out out of the cold, wet weather Tuesday and get a hot meal at the Hub City's Christian Services, Inc. The good folks at that organization provide lunch for needy people every Monday through Friday and Tuesday was no different, even though the weather conditions outside were anything but ordinary.

"We decided that we were going to come to work this morning, because our friends that come in every day are here today," said Bill Prout, executive director of Christian Services, Inc. "And we told them yesterday, we will be there tomorrow, we will be there Wednesday. We'll have hot food for you," he said.

"It's one of the many blessings that The Lord has put here for me, for people like me," said Leroy Watson, one of several dozen people who not only got lunch, but also some words of encouragement from Catherine Jorns, the director of outreach and ministry at Christian Services. "It's really a wonderful place to come and just get what you need to survive through times like this," Watson said.

For many folks who eat their meals at Christian Services, surviving the frigid temperatures means they'll need an extra blanket or two, along with a jacket and gloves if they can get them.

Christian Services will provide these items too, if they have them.

"We're giving them coats and jackets and anything that will help with the warmth, but nothing beats the warmth of someone loving on you," said Jorns.

If you have any jackets or gloves for men, women or children and would like to donate them to Christian Services, you can call either (601) 582-5683 or (601) 270-8323.
