Farm bill compromise reached

(RNN) – A bipartisan group has approved a deal on the farm bill that would lessen the cuts to food stamps and changes the farm subsidy system.

CNN reported that if the deal becomes law, $8 billion will be trimmed from the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program over the next 10 years, trimming food assistance amounts from families who receive assistance in heating or cooling their homes.

The bill, which still has to pass the House and Senate before being signed by President Obama, would last five years.

The current agricultural subsidy system would be replaced by a more robust crop insurance program.

House leaders expect to vote on the measure Wednesday, according to the Washington Post.
