HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Members of Sacred Heart Catholic Church held a silent vigil for life Sunday afternoon on the corner of Hardy Street and 31st Avenue in Hattiesburg.
"What we're trying to do is affirm life from womb to tomb," said church member Kathy Zipple.
About two dozen people held signs that referenced different aspects of life, and Zipple said the church hopes this public affirmation would remind passerby of the importance of life at all stages.
"As Catholics… we believe in the dignity of human life, that we were all made in God's image," said Zipple. "We think it's important to confirm that because there are so many aspects of life or groups of individuals that may not have all of the support they need or the affirmation they need, so we want to emphasize that it's important for all of us to work to support people and human life in every form in creation."
The signs read things such as 'The measure of love is to love without measure,' 'Support Fatherhood,' 'Dignity of work and the rights of workers' and 'Life counts,' among several others.
"It's a way for us to publicly affirm what we believe and remind the community that passes by in their vehicles that people in our community are important," said Zipple, "and each of us needs to work in our own way to support those that have human needs."
This is the seventh year the group has gathered to show their support for life.
