HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - A Hattiesburg resident barely escaped a house fire Tuesday night.
According to Fire Chief Kyle Hill, the home located on Lexington Drive was fully engulfed when the Northeast Lamar Fire Department arrived on the scene. Chief Hill says the owner was asleep when her home caught on fire, but luckily she was awakened by her smoke detectors. It's situations like these that Chief Hill encourages everyone to check their smoke detectors.
The cause of the fire is unknown and still under investigation.
Oak Grove, Pine Ridge and Central Lamar Fire Departments also assisted and responded to the house fire.
