Cook's Gun Shop picking up pieces after robbery

D'IBERVILLE, MS (WLOX) -

Police need your help finding the man they believe broke into two gun shops Friday night and attempted to break into another. Cook's Gun Shop is still open for business, but they are picking up the pieces after a violent break in left the store in shambles.

"Upon entering, you could see the whole door frame; doors were on the floor, and a lot of glass. Approaching the gun counter, where the hand guns were at, there were three counter tops busted open," said store manager Michael Creel.

The thief got away with nine hand guns, but Creel is surprised he didn't get away with a lot more.

"In the broad scheme of it all, I think nine was a very low number. It could have been worse."

The thief got into the building by ramming his car into a pull down door. Surveillance video shows he was only in the building for about 30 seconds.

The heavily clothed white male first attempted to break into a side door, and even knocked down one of the gun shop's outdoor surveillance cameras. Store employee Jason Deere has always felt the store was very secure, until now.

"We're obviously going to have to do a little bit more, and we're going to take those precautions and make things a little bit more secure," said Deere.

Cook's has already begun repairing the main door, resetting their outdoor surveillance cameras and they have replacement countertops on the way. Deere says the break in was a sad wake up call.

"You hope that it doesn't happen, but when it does, it's obviously a tragedy."

D'Iberville police tell us the suspect could very well be connected to another overnight robbery at a pawn shop in Gautier.

They are also looking at him as a suspect in an attempted robbery of Jerry's Shooting Irons Pawn in Ocean Springs.
