Home invasions have residents on high alert

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) -

Tonight, many people in Baton Rouge are double checking their windows and doors. Making sure they're locked and secure. And Baton Rouge Police have upped their presence in these four areas after four home invasions in less than a week.

There is a sense of uneasiness for residents knowing there is a sexual predator on the prowl, especially single mother Megan Prichard and her daughter.

"I feel like I can be an easy target especially with my daughter. Maybe I can defend myself, but with her I feel like I can fall victim easily," said Prichard. She has already taken steps to insure her safety, by not going out alone. She said everyone needs to be on alert, because she remembers a similar situation.

"I know when the serial killer was here we were all on guard for a couple years. Now we kind of calmed down, but this has made me back on guard," she said.

Ricky Shaffer is the president of the Sherwood Forest Citizens Association. He said he doesn't want people to panic, but stresses the importance of locking your doors.

"We found out through police agencies in Baton Rouge that the man went in to unlock windows and doors," said Shaffer.
