2-alarm fire destroys abandoned structure on St. Roch

NEW ORLEANS, LA - The New Orleans Fire Department responded Friday to a large fire at St. Roch and N. Claiborne avenues.

The call came in at about 9:20 and quickly went to two alarms. The NOFD said the fire broke out in a large commercial structure that had been abandoned for several years.

Neighbors reported seeing vagrants going in and out of the building, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

It is not yet known if there are injuries or if there is damage to nearby properties. The NOFD said dogs will be brought in to search once it's safe to do so.
