Tennessee defeats Auburn 78-67; AU winless in SEC play

KNOXVILLE, TN (RNN) - The Tennessee Volunteers defeated the Auburn Tigers 78-68 on Thursday night.

The loss pushed the Tigers (8-6) to 0-3 in SEC play following a four-game winning streak. The Volunteers (11-5, 2-1 SEC) have won five of their last six games.

The Tigers never led in the game, trailing by as many as 14 points in the first half. Tennessee out-rebounded Auburn 42-28.

Auburn had three players score in double digits, with guard Chris Denson leading all Tigers with 24 points. All five Volunteer starters scored in double digits, with guard Jordan McRae scoring 21 points. Forward Jarnell Stokes registered a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds.

The Volunteers made 76.7 percent of their free throws and shot 51 percent from the floor. Tennessee shot poorly from downtown, going three of nine from downtown, compared to Auburn's eight of 17. The Tigers shot 41 percent from field goal range and made 64.3 percent from the free throw line.

Auburn hosts the No. 7 Florida Gators on Saturday at 7 p.m. Tennessee will travel to Lexington to play the No. 13 Kentucky Wildcats on Saturday at noon.
