J.C. Penney to close 33 stores around the nation

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Underperformance in 33 J.C. Penney Co. stores has resulted in the loss of 2,000 jobs for J.C. Penney workers by early May.

CEO Myron E. Ullman said in a news release that it was a difficult decision to make, but is a priority for the improvement of the profitability of the stores and JCPenney's future success.

Of the 33 stores, the Hattiesburg Turtle Creek store J.C. Penney was not one of the stores ordered to shut down.
