HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - An arrest warrant has been issued for a former Pine Belt start athlete who ran from authorities Tuesday during a traffic stop in South Hattiesburg.
26-year-old Terry Grant is wanted by the Metro Narcotics Unit on drug charges.
Officers stopped Grant Tuesday morning near the intersection of Highways 49 and 98. Police said he fled into some nearby woods carrying a bag with him. Police say he later dropped the bag while trying to cross a barbed wire fence.
Police also said the bag contained multiple ounces of powdered cocaine.
Grant was a two time All State running back from Lumberton in 2004 and in 2005 went on to play a couple of years for ALabama before injuries cut short a promising career.
He later played in the Canadian Football League and just this past May was invited to a mini rookie camp for the the Kansas City Chiefs of the NFL.
Grant's picture and charges have also been put on the NCIC data base.
