Suspect in custody for Columbia stabbing

COLUMBIA, MS (WDAM) -

Columbia police have a suspect in custody for a stabbing on McNease Street yesterday afternoon.

According to police, around 5:15 yesterday afternoon 9-11 dispatched officers to 440 McNease Street. Witnesses say, a man was being chased down the street by another man with a knife. When police arrived they found a man lying in the street with an apparent knife wound to his side. The victim was transported to Forrest General for emergency surgery, and is listed in stable condition in the intensive care unit.

Columbia Police Detective Richard Pack said Friday, "Once officers arrived on scene we noticed that there was a black male laying in the street on his back. He was unresponsive. We then secured the scene, notified AAA, went to the victim and rendered aid and found that he had a small puncture wound to the lower left side of his stomach."

Police arrested 26-year-old Markes Scott at the scene. Scott is charged with aggravated assault and is expected to make his initial court appearance next week.
