Columbia welding business destroyed by fire

MARION COUNTY, MS (WDAM) -

Three firefighters were hurt Tuesday while battling a fire which destroyed a Columbia business. Fire officials said they received minor injuries while fighting a blaze which began just before 10 a.m. at ABS Welding, Inc.

They said it started when flower arrangements inside a trailer caught fire, as workers were cutting on the trailer.

Firefighters from several departments worked the scene for several hours.

"One (firefighter's) injury was to his back, the other one to his shoulder and the other one to his femur," said Larry Ratliff, chief of the Columbia Fire Dept. "None of them were put in the hospital. They just got checked out, but they're OK now," he said.

Ratliff said a few welding tanks also exploded during the fire.

    There were two Rite Aid stores in the Pine Belt at the start of 2018; one in Petal and one in Hattiesburg. Now, only the Petal location remains open, but it will soon close its doors for good, too.
