Winds to weaken, showers to increase as system moves west

HONOLULU (HawaiiNewsNow) -

The upper level disturbance that brought hail and thunderstorms to part of the state on Sunday will be reversing course, bringing another round of wet weather with it.

Forecasters say there is a 'slight' chance of thunderstorms for the Big Island and east Maui tonight, while shower activity is expected to increase overnight for the western half of the state.

Winds have already started to weaken across the eastern end of the state, according to the National Weather Service.

For Kauai and Oahu, the breezy and cool conditions will hang on for most of Wednesday.

The National Weather Service says that models are now pointing toward a wet and unsettled weather pattern over the islands Friday evening into the weekend. Forecasters say this time the greater focus for showers and possible thunderstorms will be on the western half of the state.

She became the organization's first female commander back in August.     One person was transported to the hospital with minor injuries after a crash involving five vehicles in Hattiesburg Tuesday night.  The wreck happened around 6:30 p.m., in the southbound lane of Highway 49, just north of the Hardy Street intersection.  Hattiesburg Police officials said one of the vehicles involved was an 18-wheeler.  Copyright 2018 WDAM. Hattiesburg Mayor Toby Barker asked City Council to table the item on the agenda at Tuesday's meeting.  Barker said he wanted to give council members more of an opportunity to go over the proposal, since it was the first time presented to them.
