Jones County family lose everything in house fire

JONES COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - A Jones County family of four has lost everything after a fire destroyed their home Saturday morning.

Mother of two, Victoria Kirby immediately got her children out of the house after she was awakened by the smell of smoke. After calling 911, fire units from Rustin, Powers, M & M, and Sandersville immediately responded to the fire located on Poole Creek Road in the Rustin community.

Along with losing their home and belongings, the family unfortunately also lost their dog, Rocky. Father and husband Jason was at work at the time of the fire, but he too is left with only the clothes on his back.

“Everything is just either water damaged, smoke damaged or fire damaged,” said Jones County Fire Coordinator Dan McKenna. “We don't know what the cause of the fire was today, but with the temperatures last night getting down into the mid twenties you know, we're going to be looking closely at some type of heating device, potentially that may have contributed to this fire although that's unknown at this time.”

The cause of the fire is being investigated by Jones County Sheriff’s Department Fire Investigator Sgt. Scott Gable.
