MDOT responds to delays with the Pearl River Bridge Repair in Marion County

It has been several months since an 18-wheeler crashed into the rail of the Pearl River Bridge on Highway 98 east, converting the highway to one lane. Many Marion County residents are wondering when it will be fixed.

On September 15, a tractor-trailer slammed into the rail of the bridge backing up traffic for hour, and 4 months later the bridge hasn't been repaired. There have been several accidents on Highway 98 East due to the one-lane highway.

According to the Mississippi Department of Transportation's McComb Office the fix isn't an issue of state funds, but a logistics problem. Being an older bridge it will not handle the added weight of a concrete guardrail.

Engineers have drafted plans for an emergency repair and the project is high on the priority list. The bridge should be repaired within the next two months.
