Auburn fan books flight to Pasadena thanks to generous guest

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -

A local Auburn fan is on his way to Pasadena, Calif. for the BCS Championship thanks to a generous customer who booked a room in the Columbus Hilton Garden Inn where he works.

Jonathan Spearman, of Phenix City, says he's rooted for Auburn ever since he was a little boy. A friend got him a ticket to the BCS Game, but he could not afford the flight to California.

When a regular guest at the hotel heard about this, the guest transferred his frequent flier Sky Miles points to Spearman to help him.

"He was like, 'I booked your flight to California for the days of the National Championship, now go have fun! You're a young person, you deserve to go witness your team, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.' So I was real ecstatic and happy, I was smiling all day!" says Spearman.

The generous guest, Shawn Frey, is a general contractor from Florida who works frequently on Fort Benning.

Spearman's friends say he is a good luck charm at Auburn games. They say his standing or sitting impacted the results for the Iron Bowl game and a game against UGA, which he attended at Jordan-Hare Stadium. And thanks to Frey, he will be there for their final game, too.

    Three days after nearly knocking off Ole Miss, Southern Miss responded with a 58-38 win over Sam Houston State on Friday night at Reed-Green Coliseum. From the 3:16 mark of the second period to the 5:35 mark of the third period, the Lady Eagles went on a 23-0 run to open a 33-16 lead over the Bearkats. USM outrebounded Sam Houston 45-32, thanks in part to junior Megan Brown and senior Jayla King’s pair of double-doubles.
