In her bed at University Hospital, Lateshia Peak is glowing.

"I feel good. I'm happy, at the same time," said Peak, smiling while holding her newborn.

After nearly 14 hours of labor, the new mother gave birth to her daughter at 12:01 a.m., making her the first 2014 baby in Augusta.

"It was about 10 o'clock yesterday morning," Peak said when she arrived at University Hospital. "I was here about 14 hours. I never thought I'd have a new years baby because I never thought of that."

Lateshia named her daughter, weighing 6 pounds and 11 ounces, She-Mia.

"I just added half of her father's first name in it," Peak said.

She-Mia wasn't due until January 3rd but Lateshia said she is not upset that her blessing came a bit early.

"They came in and was like 'OMG you have a new year's baby, Happy Birthday.' I was so shocked and surprised. 'I was like OMG. I got a first of the month baby.'"
