MEMPHIS, TN -

(WMC-TV) - Downtowners enjoyed a banner New Year's Eve celebration on Memphis' historic Beale Street.

The weather was great, Liberty Bowl fans came in town, and the Convention and Visitors Bureau expect more than 30,000 descended upon the 1.8-mile stretch.

The epicenter of New Year's Eve in Memphis was The Hard Rock Café, where a guitar sat atop a scaffold. Revelers anxiously awaited for it to drop at midnight.

Full trolleys dropped folks off on Beale Street. Many came from the Liberty Bowl, where Mississippians cheered on the Bulldogs.

To boot, Beale Street was dubbed the most iconic street in America in a USA Today poll.

"Peabody Hotel is sold out. They've got a huge New Year's Eve party there. They will be packed to the gills," said CVB President Kevin Kane. "We hope the Mississippi State and Rice fans stick around and enjoy a little bit of Memphis hospitality."

Memphis police were staged along Beale Street for the big night.
