LEXINGTON, KY (RNN) – No. 16 Kentucky (10-3) defeated the No. 6-ranked Louisville Cardinals (11-2) 73-66 Saturday night.

The Wildcats' win was their first against a ranked opponent this season after previous losses to Michigan State, Baylor and North Carolina.

Kentucky had to play most of the game without star forward Julius Randle, who sat out the second half with severe leg cramps. Randle scored 17 points and three rebounds in just 21 minutes.

Louisville began the game on an 8-0 run, but the Wildcats quickly caught their in-state rival with a 19-19 tie at the halfway point of the first frame. Kentucky led 41-36 at halftime, and with the help of identical twins Andrew and Aaron Harrison, took control to lead throughout the second half.

Kentucky guard James Young scored 18 points and snatched down 10 rebounds, with guard Andrew Harrison scoring 17 points. The Wildcats outmanned the Cardinals on the boards opponent 44-36. Kentucky went 16-for-30 from the floor and shot 27-62 from the field goal range.

The Wildcats will begin 2014 with their SEC schedule and will host the Mississippi State Bulldogs on Wednesday, Jan. 8.
