LAUREL, MS (WDAM) - The Lauren Rogers Museum of Art in 2014 will host exhibits focusing on women and African-American artists and will also feature a collaborative exhibit of abstract paintings, which will be shown in both Laurel and Hattiesburg.
Rebels with a Cause will have about 50 works from female artists from the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
Reflections will focus on works of African-American artists from the Myrna Colley-Lee collection.
And Aquaflora will feature the abstract works of six different artists. That exhibit will be shown at the museum in Laurel, as well as Southern Miss and the Oddfellows Gallery in the Hub City. It opens in late January.
"I think it's going to be a unique look at some contemporary artwork," said George Bassi, director of the Lauren Rogers Museum of Art. "And those artists are going to come in and do talks here in Laurel and Hattiesburg throughout that time. So, it should be kind of fun for us to have," he said.
Bassi said the Rogers-Green House across the street from the museum will also have some interior work done in 2014.
It houses five museum offices and is also used for receptions and other activities.
