Georgia survives buzzer-beater attempt vs. Catamounts

(RNN) - Charles Mann made two free throws with two seconds left and a Western Carolina buzzer-beating 3-point attempt was no good, lifting the Bulldogs to a 65-63 win Saturday afternoon.

Outside of an early 2-0 lead, Georgia (6-4) never had the advantage until 1:25 remaining when Nemanja Djurisic broke a 58-58 tie with a 3-pointer. The Bulldogs never trailed after that, but a pair of free throws by Western Carolina's Tom Tankelewicz tied the game at 63 with 20 seconds to play.

Mann was fouled with 2 second left and drained both his free throws for a two-point lead. Tankelewicz tried for a game-winning shot, but couldn't convert.

Kenny Gaines paced Georgia with a team-high 17 points, followed by Mann with 13 and Brandon Morris, who had 11.

Trey Sumler led the Catamounts with a game-high 21 points.

Free throws weren't just important in the final seconds. Georgia scored 24 of its points from the charity stripe compared to eight by Western Carolina.

It was the fifth consecutive win for the Bulldogs who next face Colorado Dec. 28.
