ELLISVILLE, MS (WDAM) -

Republican Senatorial Candidate Chris McDaniel said he's not surprised that a new poll by a conservative political website shows him tied with long-time incumbent Sen. Thad Cochran.  A Human Events/Gravis poll taken on Dec. 13 shows both McDaniel and Cochran getting 40 percent, with 20 percent undecided.

Cochran announed earlier this month he'll seek a seventh term. McDaniel, a state senator from Laurel, announced in October he would challenge Cochran in the June, 2014 primary.

"We knew all along that the people of Mississippi were wanting change," McDaniel said. "The people are telling us they need new blood and new energy in Washington D.C.," he said.

On Saturday, McDaniel hosted his 8th annual Christmas Turkey Giveaway at West Ellisville Baptist Church. More than 500 turkeys were handed out to motorists and all they had to do was say, "Merry Christmas."
