NEW YORK CITY (RNN) - No. 16 Florida will take on its third ranked opponent in a row when it plays No. 15 Memphis in the Jimmy V Classic on Tuesday.

The Gators (7-2) have had mixed results against ranked teams this season, defeating No. 13 Kansas at home but losing to No. 20 Wisconsin and No. 12 UConn on the road.

Forward Casey Prather scores a team-leading 18.3 points per game for Florida, which is on a roll after taking a 67-61 win over Kansas in Gainesville. The Gators defense was outstanding, forcing the Jayhawks into 24 turnovers.

Florida has been in three straight tight games, winning a one-point decision to Florida State 67-66 at home before losing to the Huskies 65-64 in Connecticut.

The Tigers (7-1) are also on a roll with six straight wins, including three from the Old Spice Classic. Memphis took the title home after defeating No. 5 Oklahoma State 73-68 in rematch (they played earlier in November, when the Cowboys won 101-80). The Tigers are 1-1 against ranked opponents this season (both those opponents being Oklahoma State).

Joe Jackson leads Memphis with an average 15 points per game. He scored 17 when Memphis beat Arkansas-Little Rock 73-59 last week.

Tipoff at Madison Square Garden is at 9 p.m. ET and will air on ESPN.

It didn’t take long for Nick Sandlin to capture another award following his return to the mound for USM. The junior was named Conference USA pitcher of the week and a Collegiate Baseball player of the week for the third time this season. Sandlin pitched 12 strikeouts and allowed just one hit in five innings of USM’s 8-0 win over Middle Tennessee on Saturday. Junior Adam Jackson is expected to take the mound on Tuesday night when the Golden Eagles host South Alabama.

Though soft-spoken, Steven Anderson hits hard. A "violent" runner as Southern Miss teammate Keon Howard describes him, perhaps Anderson is making up for all those years spent at quarterback. "Steven runs like he doesn't want to be hit no more,” Howard said.
