Bullet rips through room with mother, 1-yr-old sleeping

WHITEVILLE, NC (WECT) – Whiteville police are investigating a shooting they say happened in the early morning hours Monday.

According to investigators an unknown suspect fired a gun into a home located in the 200 block of Nance Street around 4:30 a.m. Monday morning. The bullet went through a bedroom where Valencia Barden and her 1-year-old child were sleeping.

Investigators say there was also another woman in the house at the time of the shooting.

    After losing the first two games of the season by a combined five points, Collins has won 12 consecutive games to advance to the class 2A South State title. The Tigers (12-2) defeated Bay Springs 22-8 on Friday to advance to a south state matchup against Taylorsville (13-1). Collins scored twice in the fourth quarter to overcome the Bulldogs on the road. "I feel great," said Collins head coach Eric Booth, a former USM running back.
