HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

Hundreds of needy children and their families received early Christmas gifts and were entertained by a special program during an annual holiday event hosted by Hattiesburg's Christian Services.

About 500 youngsters got toys and were treated to games and other activities at the 27th annual Birthday Party for Jesus at the Ben McNair Center.

"It was wonderful," said Barbara Walker, who brought her grandchildren and other relatives to the party. "I come every year and they do a great job with the kids," she said.

"It's a blessing, it's a blessing what they do for our community," said Amie Creel, a mother of three who brought her children to the event.

"Not only do they get a gift, they also get a goodie bag," said Catherine Jorns, director of outreach and ministry development for Christian Services. "Every person gets a lunch and on top of that, they get an amazing show, with entertainment, the scripture and just a lot of love," she said.

On Tuesday, Dec. 17, the folks at Christian Services will host their annual Christmas dinner at their soup kitchen on E. 2nd Avenue in downtown Hattiesburg.
