Kindergarten through fifth-grade students in Sumrall wrote letters to soldiers deployed in Afghanistan to put them in the Christmas spirit on Monday.
Each student dropped off a letter in a mailbox set up in the front office of the school.
After dropping off their letters, they shook the hand of one of three soldiers visiting the school this morning. One soldier visiting this morning, Sgt. Chaney, said this event hits home with him because he received a letter from his daughter when he was deployed around this time last year.
One teacher said when soldiers are asked what they want for Christmas, the most common answer is "a letter from my home state."
