Pontotoc teen killed in crash

PONTOTOC, Miss. (AP) - A high school senior from Pontotoc High School was killed in a crash on Miss. Highway 336 in Pontotoc County.

The Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal reports (http://bit.ly/1g4fSeP ) troopers responded to the scene at 7:44 a.m. Tuesday, near Airport Road.

Troopers say 17-year-old Macie E. Atkinson, of Pontotoc, was traveling eastbound when she apparently ran off the road and struck a tree.

Investigators say Atkinson was taken to a hospital in Pontotoc where she died from injuries sustained in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
