AMES, IA (RNN) - Auburn will travel to Ames, IA, on Monday to take on No. 17 Iowa State as part of the Big 12/SEC Challenge.

The Tigers (4-1) narrowly escaped winless Tennessee State 78-73 last Tuesday. Auburn's largest lead in that game was nine points.

The Cyclones (5-0) are coming off a 110-51 domination over University of Missouri - Kansas City last Monday. Iowa State scored 27 unanswered points midway through the first half.

Chris Denson leads Auburn with an average 20.8 points per game compared to Iowa State's Melvin Ejim's 18 points.

The Tigers also lead in average points per game - 79.8, compared to the Cyclones' 75 points. But Iowa State has allowed only 50.2 points per game compared to Auburn's 71.8 points.

The two teams have met twice previously and each team has a win over the other. Iowa State won the more recent matchup 79-60 during the 2000 NCAA tournament.

Tipoff at James H. Hilton Coliseum is at 7 p.m. ET and will air on ESPNU.

    After losing the first two games of the season by a combined five points, Collins has won 12 consecutive games to advance to the class 2A South State title. The Tigers (12-2) defeated Bay Springs 22-8 on Friday to advance to a south state matchup against Taylorsville (13-1). Collins scored twice in the fourth quarter to overcome the Bulldogs on the road. "I feel great," said Collins head coach Eric Booth, a former USM running back.
