CORPUS CHRISTI, TX (RNN) – J-Mychal Reese's desperation 3-pointer to force overtime did not fall, but the Texas A&M Aggies did, losing to the Southern Methodist Mustangs 55-52.

The loss comes in the consolation game at the Corpus Christ Challenge on Saturday night.

Despite outscoring SMU (6-2) 30-26 in the first half, the Aggies (6-2) could not make the crucial free-throw shots that the Mustangs made toward the end of regulation. SMU claimed its three-point lead in the final 3 seconds on the back of two made free throws by SMU guard Nick Russell.

Forward Davonte Fitzgerald led all Aggies in scoring with 12 points. Reese scored 11 points off the bench, and missed his only 3-point shot at the end of the game. Ten of A&M's 37 rebounds were caught by forward Kourtney Roberson.

Although solid from the free throw line, shooting 75 percent, the Aggies went three-of-10 from 3-point land and shot 38 percent from the field.

The Aggies return home to face the Houston Cougars on Dec. 4.
