PHOENIX (CBS5) -

Glendale police have released the names of those involved in a deadly crash Saturday afternoon that killed one pedestrian and injured another.

Glendale police spokesman Jay O'Neill said one of their officers who was driving a marked police cruiser was among the four drivers involved in the accident around 2:30 p.m.

Glendale police Officer Cody Howard was responding to a non-emergency when a van driven by Robert Escobedo, of Glendale, turned in front of him, investigators said.

The force of the collision sent the van onto a sidewalk, hitting the two pedestrians, a man and a woman, O'Neill said.

The female pedestrian was thrown into the parking lot of an adjacent business, where she was struck by a vehicle being driven by Teresa Doten of Glendale, O'Neill said. Her vehicle had also been hit by Escobedo's van.

Glendale police identified the victim as Dorothy Cochran of Glendale. She died of her injuries at a local hospital.

The other pedestrian, Elmer Hicks, suffered life-threatening injuries.

Escobedo was taken to the hospital in serious condition.

The driver of the vehicle that was struck by Officer Howard's patrol vehicle following its collision with the van is Maria Wright of Phoenix. Wright was not injured in the collision.

There were no other passengers or pedestrians involved and the investigation is still on-going.

Howard, a five-year veteran of the police force, is currently assigned to the Gateway Patrol Division.
