AZ DUI task force poised for holiday crackdown

PHOENIX (CBS5) -

The East Valley DUI Task Force launches Friday at 7 p.m. for their annual holiday enforcement operation.

The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office says it will team up with the Governor's Office of Highway Safety (GOHS) for the task force operations on both sides of the Valley.     

On Saturday night, officers from across the Valley will join the effort. 

Much of the funding for those officers is provided by the GOHS. The GOHS also funds equipment used by officers during DUI enforcement operations, such as the mobile DUI processing vans and preliminary breath test devices.

Officers plan to address such goals as preventing injury and property damage by removing impaired drivers from our roadways, holding impaired drivers accountable through swift prosecution and changing the future behavior of offenders through the use of mandatory treatment and ignition interlock devices.

    After losing the first two games of the season by a combined five points, Collins has won 12 consecutive games to advance to the class 2A South State title. The Tigers (12-2) defeated Bay Springs 22-8 on Friday to advance to a south state matchup against Taylorsville (13-1). Collins scored twice in the fourth quarter to overcome the Bulldogs on the road. "I feel great," said Collins head coach Eric Booth, a former USM running back.
