HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -

Family and friends of a Hattiesburg teenager killed in a recent auto accident honored his memory Saturday by sponsoring a cat adoption day at Southern Pines Animal Shelter. The event called "Quin's Day," gave qualified adopters a chance to take home a cat or kitten for free.

It was held in honor of Quin Thomson, a 17-year-old Sacred Heart High School student and cat owner who died in a car wreck on Interstate 59 on Nov. 5.

Ginny Sims, shelter manager, said donations from Thomson's friends and family have sponsored more than 50 cat and kitten adoptions.

"It's been really amazing and it makes us so happy," said Sims. "With the holidays coming up, we want our animals to have warm, comfy, loving homes for the holidays and so, it's been nice to have people come out and find a new family member, a new best friend," she said.
