The Southern Pines Animal Shelter is hosting a free cat and kitten adoption day Saturday in honor of a Scared Heart junior who died in a car wreck two-weeks ago.
The day is being hailed as Quin's Day in memory of Quintus Thomson, 17, who died when his car hit a bridge pillar on I-59 in Jasper County. Quin's family approached the shelter about organizing the event to benefit the cats of the shelter because of his love for his cat.
"He loved his cat, so they wanted to be able to help the cats and kittens at the shelter in his memory," said Ginny Sims, shelter manager. "We will have approximately 55 cats and kittens who are free to approved adopters to go home. It's really just a beautiful way to send a lot of love out into the community in his memory."
All cats and kittens will be spayed or neutered, be current on their shots, and micro-chipped. They will come with a starter bag of cat food and 30-days of free pet insurance. Each of the pets must leave in a carrier.
The free adoptions begins when the shelter opens at 10 a.m. and goes until all are adopted or 6 p.m.
