Southern Pines to address Petal board over loss of contract

PETAL, MS (WDAM) -

Southern Pines Animal Shelter Board Vice President is meeting with the Petal Board of Alderman Tuesday evening to address the boards recent decision not to renew a long standing contract between the two.

At the last board meeting the alderman voted not to renew the contract and instead sign a similar one for intake of surrendered and stray animals with the Hub City Humane Society. The decision was made after the board listened to concerns from the cities animal warden about the shelter. These concerns included euthanasia procedures, lack of adequate shelter for animals after hours, and frequency of cage cleaning.

Moore is expected to address the sudden and unexpected loss of the contract after a long-term working relationship. He also plans to dispute the allegations made by the animal warden.

The meeting is at city hall at 6 p.m.
