Tri-State storm damage clean up continues in Kentucky

Corydon, KY was one of the harder hit areas of the Tri-State by Sunday's storms and Monday, crews will have a big job ahead of them to clean up the mess.

14 News spoke with the EMA director and he tells us crews have stabilized the situation.

They went home around 1 a.m. to get some rest and came back out at sunup to continue. They'll spend today and the next few days covering roofs, cutting down fallen trees and so forth.

So far, from the initial assessment, the EMA director says they have reports of 28 properties damaged.

That includes homes, buildings, one church. Two of those, we are told have been destroyed, that means, they are not habitable.

The good news is, everyone is accounted for, there are no injuries.

Sunday night, right after the storm, power was a big issue. Most of the town had lost power.

We are Kentucky Utilities restored power to at least half those people, and has been working through the night to make sure the rest have it as well.

In Hopkins County, a tornado hit White Plains around 3:30 Sunday afternoon.

The National Weather Service says, the tornado then jumped across the Pennyrile at Exit 31.

Hopkins County authorities say there were no deaths and no injuries related to the storm. Two people were reported missing, but firefighters did find them in the rubble after the storm.

Residents in Union County will also continue cleaning up storm damage on Monday.

Union County dispatch tells us they say they haven't heard any additional reports of damage Monday morning.

Union County EMA says a funnel cloud was spotted over Morganfield at Hedge Road around 2:40 Sunday afternoon.

Authorities say the tornado traveled east over Buchanan Road. Then headed north on Highway 669 then went into Henderson County.

There is widespread damage countywide, including many trees down and several buildings damaged.

There are reports of house damage on Highway 669 where a mobile home was destroyed. There is also some structural damage on Highway 669 near Waverly. Garage and outbuildings were destroyed along Hwy 760.

People may have experienced some power outages in those areas.

Luckily no injuries have been reported.

The EMA will continue to assess the damage throughout the county and we will be sure to keep you updated.

Corydon officials say dumpsters for storm debris are located at:

  • 3rd and Hancock Street
  • Powell and Brickyard Street
  • Across from Crawford Field and Park
They say debris and include roofing, siding, indoor and outdoor furnishings, construction materials and bricks. Please no wood, trees or tree limbs.

All wood and trees can be placed roadside and it will be picked up at a later date.

Though soft-spoken, Steven Anderson hits hard. A "violent" runner as Southern Miss teammate Keon Howard describes him, perhaps Anderson is making up for all those years spent at quarterback. "Steven runs like he doesn't want to be hit no more,” Howard said.
