BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

The FBI believes they have identified the suspected child predator dubbed "John Doe 27" and his location in the Midwest.

FBI spokesman Paul Daymond says no warrants have been issued and no arrests made yet in this case, but they made procress in the case thanks to tips from the Nov. 12 publicity campaign. In a statement, the FBI thanked the public for their help in potentially identifying the suspect.

Daymond did not specify which part of the Midwest investigators believe John Doe 27 may be in.

The FBI released images John Doe 27 on Tuesday, asking the nation for help identifying the man in the photographs. He is suspected of child exploitation and sexually abusing a minor.

The FBI says video of the John Doe 27 engaging in sexually explicit activities with a child surfaced online in April 2013 and came to the attention of the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children. The FBI says the images are still circulating on child pornography forums online.

John Doe 27 is described as a white male in his 40s or 50s with brown hair, graying sideburns and a bald spot. He wears glasses and a ring on the ring finger of his right hand. Authorities say he has a Southern accent and refers to himself as Jimmy. The FBI also released an image of a distinct plaid chair believed to be in John Doe 27's home. They hoped all these details would lead to his identification.

The FBI says they will not make any further comments about the case since the investigation is ongoing.
