(RNN) – Have y'all heard the news? A recent survey by the website Cupid.com says the southern accent is the most attractive, or as we in the south might say, the purdiest accent in North America.

Of the 2,000 folks surveyed, a total of 36.5 percent voted the Southern accent the most attractive. Almost half of the men, 45 percent, ranked it first. Women didn't seem to be as enchanted by the accent, but it still ranked it first with 28 percent of the vote, according to the figures at Time.com.

Coming in a close second among women, at 23 percent, was the New York accent. Men, on the other hand, chose the western accent as their second favorite with 16 percent of the vote.

The mid-Atlantic accent came in last for both sexes, bless their hearts.

It's curious that the southern accent ranked so high, considering the stereotypes associated with the South. But we must admit that the news makes us as happy as a dead pig in the sunshine.
