LAUREL, MS (WDAM) -

Authorities are investigating an early morning house fire that took the life of a Laurel man.

The victim has not yet been identified, but Laurel Police said he apparently died of smoke inhalation during a fire at his home at 824 N. 15th Ave.

It began around 1:30 a.m.

Two other elderly relatives living in the house were rescued by police officers.  They were treated for minor injuries at the scene.

Police said the fire began in the rear of the home in the victim's bedroom, but they haven't yet determined how it started.
