HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - The Hattiesburg Police Department has honored some courageous employees who've successfully battled a terrible disease. Thursday, officers, family members and other employees gathered at the municipal courtroom to recognize co-workers who've survived breast cancer.
They were given special gifts and received words of encouragement from Hattiesburg's first lady Johniece Dupree, who is also a breast cancer survivor.
"It's a blessing and it's encouraging," said Sherial Robinson, a records clerk who has been a breast cancer survivor for 10 years. "You know, the cancer journey continues throughout life, so as people recognize you, it still gives you hope," she said.
"It's great that people recognize and that they do take care of the breast cancer survivors and it's great to have the love and support of everyone," said Darlene Corley, an administrative assistant for Metro Narcotics, who has been a breast cancer survivor for five years.
Other employees honored included Kay Davis and Renea Tisdale.
