Most popular costume theme in the Pine Belt

Scary costumes in the Hattiesburg area are not a thing of the past; in fact, you might run into some creepy costumes from Halloween Headquarters in Hattiesburg this year.

Jesse Worley, manager of Halloween HQ, says this year's most popular costume is the Duck Dynasty beard.

"Duck Dynasty is absolutely the most popular costume this year," Worley said.

"And it's really not a costume, they just want the beards. Nearly everyone has some camo they can wear, so we've gotten all the beards we can get from all the vendors we can deal with and I've even sold the ones off the mannequin."

Even USM's baseball coach, Scott Berry, hopped on the Duck Dynasty bandwagon. He spoke to 7 on your Side about an upcoming event in a wig and overalls.

"On Halloween Night, we're encouraging people to come out at five o'clock and trick or treat. Trick or Treat at the Pete is the theme and it sets the stage for this week," Berry said.

"We decided to have a little costume practice just to kinda set the mood."

No matter what your plans are this year, don't forget to play it safe. Pay close attention to trick or treaters when driving during trick or treating hours. More than twice as many children are killed in pedestrian car accidents on Halloween between the hours of 4 p.m. and 10 p.m., compared with the same hours on other days of the year, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Also, whether your costume is a light or dark color, make sure it is bright enough to be seen from the road.
