This week is tornado preparedness week for the state of Mississippi as declared by Governor Phil Bryant.  The Governor, as well National Weather Service and the Mississippi Emergency Management Agency aim to call attention to the secondary peak severe weather season beginning in late fall.

While the spring time is historically the busiest time for tornados, November stands out as very active, due to changing weather patterns, and historically it's Mississippi's third most active tornado month.

We want you and your family to stay safe. The weather team here at WDAM will keep watch over any severe weather developments, but your best defense is having a severe weather plan in place. Remember to take cover in a sturdy building. The safest place is on the ground floor in an interior room away from windows. Talk about the plan with your family so everyone knows your safe place and when to go there.

This is today's viewpoint.
