Stringer softball team excited for state championship

The Stringer Lady Red Devils softball team is playing in the 1A-state Championship game tomorrow.

Today, the school held a pep rally in celebration of a successful season up to this point, and to cheer them on to victory against Hamilton.

"It feels so good to beat Bouge Chitto, and it feels so good to prove everybody wrong," said Kendalen Russell, 1st base Junior.

After a rough start to their season, the Lady Red Devils hit their stride, rattling off several wins including a hard fought victory over rival Bogue Chitto at the end of the year, propelling them to state.

"To beat Bogue Chitto was probably the highlight of our year," said Head Coach David Mosley. "We started out 2-7 and everybody counted us out, and he was saying that he would probably win the division. After they beat us here we kind of had some doubts in our mind and we went down there to beat 'em, and that's what we needed to win to go to state."

The game is at 10:30 a.m. at Freedom Ridge Park in Ridgeland.

"It would mean the world to me to win state," said Madison Scaggin, Right Center. "This will be my first time to go to State as a Stringer Red Devil, so hopefully we can bring it home."
