Wayne County softball team heading to State Championship

The Wayne County Lady War Eagles slow-pitch softball team will play in the 5A/6A State Championship Saturday at Freedom Ridge Park in Ridgeland.

"The Good Lord blessed us with these past couple of wins, and we are going to continue to put him first and play our best and leave everything out on the field," said Skyler Mclain, Senior Shortstop.

Wayne County took down George County, Meridian and Harrison Central before reaching this point in the playoffs.

Their opponent in the championship is a familiar one, Neshoba Central.

"The kids have been there before. Now they know what to expect," said Jamie Powell, Senior Head Coach. "We played Neshoba Central last year and they got the better of us so our kids are not as nervous this year as they were last year. We tell them we got unfinished business."

The Lady War Eagles fell to the Lady Rockets last season in the finals, but this time they are aiming for a different result.

"They think they got it in the bag, and they are just gonna beat us like they did last year, but we got a surprise for 'em," said Jordynne Grimes, Senior Pitcher.
